teaser tuesdays 09.22.09

teasertuesdays31

teaser tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of should be reading.  i’ve decided that i can actually keep up with this particular activity between book posts and i’m really excited 🙂  check out MizB’s page for the rules.

my teaser comes from the lovely bones by alice sebold:

i felt like a sea in which he stood and pissed and shat. i felt the corners of my body were turning in on themselves and out, like in cat’s cradle, which i played with lindsey just to make her happy. (p.14)

sounds intense, huh?

BBAW_Celebrate_Books

it’s the end of book blogger appreciation week so i thought i’d do a meme that i saw first at alita.reads. 🙂

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack? not usually, but i think it’s because of my lack of coordination.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of
writing in books horrify you? is this common?  what, do people take notes in the margin of their books like they’re studying?  they’re not textbooks for crying out loud.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? i’ve been using post-it notes recently.  i never got why you would dog-ear a book, unless you wanted them to look like the ones in battlestar galactica which are frakking great.

Laying the book flat open? only when i’m trying to read illegally at work.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both? both but more fiction.

Hard copy or audiobooks? books in the flesh.  i’d hate to hear someone drone on and on and on and on.  besides, the only person fit to read the book out loud is the author.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point? i can put a book down at any point but that’s usually from sheer exhaustion.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away? if internet access is readily available.

What are you currently reading? the lovely bones by alice sebold

What is the last book you bought? the lovely bones, city of glass, and shiver at the same time.  and i really didn’t have money to buy those.

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time? i can read more than one at the same time but i usually end up getting so consumed in one that the others must wait their turns.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read? anytime, anywhere.  bring it.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books? no preference.  but it is nice when books have siblings.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over? harry potter, duh.

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?) stacks all over the place.  i am working on converting an entire wall into a shelf, floor to ceiling.  this will be my own personal library.  i might even find a little ladder to lean on it for kicks.  i will then alphabetize my books by author with book series having their own section.  alas, this may never come to pass.

nourishment!

i finally made it to a bookstore (books a million) and came away with 3 wonderful finds.  i’m in the process of reading the second sookie stackhouse novel and i told myself i need to finish it before i start one of my new books, but i have ants in my pants about it.  Photo 314ahem!  i have the following:  the lovely bones by alice sebold, shiver by maggie stiefvater, and city of glass by cassandra clare. i have heard great things about all.  any suggestions on where i should start?
